An experiment...

So I am going to attempt a little experiment here. I had opened up this account on Blogger.com several months ago, then the &*#@ hit the fan with work, and nothing came of it because I was always swamped with projects.

Now I am on vacation, and I was trying to use iWeb and my .Mac account to create a travel blog, but I've hit a roadblock. You see, iWeb is an outright pig when it comes to graphics. Sure, it makes a very cute, polished looking blog site. However, it is so extremely bloated by the graphics it must have (and upload separately for every page of blog), that it is a minimum of about 1 megabyte per page. That may not sound like much in the world of high speed internet, but here is a different story.

And where is here? Aboard the "Diamond Princess" cruise ship, sailing off the coast of Alaska. For their internet service, they have to use satellite. It's not bad for downloading stuff, but uploading is a different tale. It's way slower than dial-up, I believe. What's more, they charge about $20 bucks an hour, and it takes an hour just to upload a couple of pages.

So I am experimenting with this forum, as I seem to recall it was far less graphics heavy. That's what I want to find out. I may switch the blog over to this for the text and Webshots for the pictures...at least until I can get back to a hardwire, high-speed connection.

So let the experiment begin... :)
